Help, Policies & Your Rights
Everything you need to know - from how to measure and what to expect, to our returns policy and your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Sizing & Measurements
We recommend using a soft fabric tape measure and having a second person assist wherever possible - particularly for back length, shoulder width and arm length, which are difficult to take accurately alone.
For a suit jacket we require: chest, waist, seat, shoulder width, back length, neck, bicep, arm length and wrist. For trousers we require: waist, seat, thigh, inseam and outside leg.
Because every Arden & Wolfe garment is cut to your individual measurements rather than to a standard size block, being between sizes is not a concern. Simply provide your exact body measurements and our pattern cutters will work from those directly.
You can use an existing well-fitting garment as a reference, but we strongly recommend providing body measurements rather than garment measurements. Garment measurements already include ease and vary between makers and styles.
We build all our garments with standard seam allowances, which means there is room to let out or take in the suit by a local tailor if your measurements change slightly over time.
Ordering
Select your garment, choose your fabric and style options, then enter your measurements at checkout. Our team reviews every measurement before cutting begins. If anything looks unusual we will contact you directly before proceeding.
Changes can be accommodated within 24 hours of placing your order, before cutting has begun. Please contact us immediately at hello@ardenandwolfe.com with your order number and the amendment you require.
Yes - without exception. Arden & Wolfe does not hold stock. Every garment is cut individually to the measurements provided at the time of ordering.

Fabric & Construction
We source our cloths primarily from renowned mills in England and Italy - including weaving houses in the Yorkshire Dales and the Biella region of Northern Italy. Every cloth is selected for its hand feel, drape, durability and visual quality.
Fabric weight is measured in grams per linear metre (g/m). Lighter fabrics (230-280g/m) are ideal for warmer climates. Mid-weight (280-320g/m) offer the best drape for business suiting. Given Australia's climate, we recommend 260-290g/m for everyday business wear.
Our suits are constructed with a half canvas chest piece as standard - a floating layer of horsehair canvas between the outer fabric and lining. This allows the jacket to mould to your body over time. Full canvas is available on request.
Yes. You can select lining colour and pattern, button style, lapel shape (notch, peak or shawl), pocket style, vent type and trouser details including pleats, turn-ups and waistband finish. Add specific requests to the order notes field.
Alterations
Minor fit adjustments are a normal part of the made-to-measure process, particularly for first-time customers. We build all garments with generous seam allowances. Most adjustments can be made quickly by a local tailor.
Yes - and this is not a courtesy, it is your right under the Australian Consumer Law. If the finished garment differs materially from the measurements confirmed in your order due to an error in our cutting or construction, we will provide a free alteration or full remake at no cost.
Most capital cities and larger regional centres have reputable alteration tailors. We recommend dry cleaners with in-house tailoring or bespoke tailors who offer alterations. Avoid fast-fashion chains for fine suiting - quality garments require a tailor familiar with canvassed jacket construction.
Garment Care
Always hang your jacket on a wide, shaped wooden or velvet suit hanger - never a wire hanger. Allow the suit to breathe and rest for at least 24 hours between wearings. Wool has natural recovery properties and will release minor creases and odours with rest and air.
As infrequently as possible - no more than once or twice per year. Dry cleaning chemicals break down fibres and canvas over time. Spot clean minor marks with a damp cloth and use a professional steam press between cleans.
Steam is preferable to direct ironing. A handheld garment steamer is an excellent investment. If you do iron, always use a pressing cloth and low-to-medium heat. Never iron the lapels flat - the roll is set during construction and should be maintained by steaming from a distance.
For short trips, fold the jacket inside-out along the centre seam, then fold in half. For longer travel, a suit carrier is ideal. On arrival, hang the suit in the bathroom while running a hot shower - steam will release travel creases within 15-20 minutes.
Made to Order - What This Means
Every garment produced by Arden & Wolfe is cut, constructed and finished individually to the measurements and specifications you provide at the time of ordering. We hold no stock. Your suit does not exist until you order it, and once fabric has been cut it cannot be reassigned or returned to stock.
Because of this, we are unable to accept returns or offer refunds on the basis of change of mind, ordering error, or incorrect measurements supplied by the customer. This is consistent with Section 64 of the Australian Consumer Law, which permits the exclusion of change-of-mind return rights for goods custom made to a consumer's individual specifications.
We strongly encourage every customer to follow our step-by-step Sizing Guide, double-check every measurement before submitting, and contact our team with any questions before placing an order. Once cutting begins, we cannot reverse the process.
.
If you are unsure about any measurement or specification, please email us at hello@ardenandwolfe.com before ordering.
.
Pre-Dispatch Video Inspection
Before your garment is packaged and dispatched, every Arden & Wolfe order undergoes a final quality inspection. We record a short video of the finished piece - covering the construction, stitching, lining, canvas, buttonholes and overall presentation - and send it to you directly by email. This serves as mutual confirmation that your garment has left our hands in perfect condition with no imperfections in construction or finish.
Free Alterations - Our Error, Our Responsibility
If the finished garment differs materially from the measurements confirmed in your order - meaning the discrepancy is the result of an error in our cutting or construction - we will provide a free alteration or, where an alteration is not possible, a full remake at no cost to you.
This is not a courtesy - it is your right under the Australian Consumer Law's consumer guarantees, which require that goods correspond with their description and are of acceptable quality.
.
Under the Australian Consumer Law (Competition and Consumer Act 2010, Schedule 2), goods must be of acceptable quality - meaning safe, durable, free from defects, acceptable in appearance and fit for purpose. Where a garment fails to meet this standard due to a fault on our part, you are entitled to a remedy.
.
Free alterations do not apply where the sizing issue arises from measurements supplied inaccurately or incompletely by the customer. All garments are constructed with seam allowances specifically to allow for minor adjustments by a local tailor in those cases.
.
Returns & Refunds
As a made-to-order business, Arden & Wolfe does not accept returns for change of mind, incorrect measurements provided by the customer, or personal preference after delivery. Each garment is unique to its recipient and cannot be restocked or resold.
However, your statutory rights under the Australian Consumer Law are preserved in full and cannot be excluded by this policy.
.
Minor fault: You are entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced within a reasonable time. If we fail to do so, you may return the goods for a refund.
Major fault: You may choose a full refund or replacement. A major fault includes one that a reasonable consumer would not have bought the product had they known about, or where the product is significantly different from its description. For more information visit accc.gov.au.
If you believe your garment has a fault or does not match its description, please contact us within a reasonable time of receiving the order. Your statutory rights are not time-limited to 7 days for major failures.
.

Your Rights Under Australian Consumer Law
The Australian Consumer Law (ACL), contained in Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010, gives consumers automatic guarantees that apply to all goods purchased in Australia. These guarantees cannot be excluded, restricted or modified by any business, including Arden & Wolfe.
When you purchase a garment from us, it must be of acceptable quality, match its description, be fit for the purpose we have described, and correspond with any sample shown. If it fails any of these guarantees due to fault on our part, you have the right to a remedy.
Nothing in this policy limits, excludes or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. To the extent permitted by law, our liability for a failure to comply with a consumer guarantee is limited to repair, replacement or refund of the purchase price.
